The job losses are expected to be larger next year but San Diego presents a good example of how loses in construction jobs can to made up elsewhere.
Since hitting a peak in June, construction firms have shed 3,400 workers, representing a 3.5 percent decline in the labor force. In October, there were 1,400 fewer construction workers than there had been the previous year – the first year-to-year decline since June 1994.

Despite the job losses, the unemployment rate has been hovering at historic lows in San Diego, sliding to 3.6 percent in October.
