For a couple of more balanced perspectives about investing in Mexico in response to this article, please see my blog post at http://www.puertopenascopost.com and another at http://arizonarealestatejournal.blogspot.com/2007/11/arizona-republic-mexico-article-112507.html

Don’t invest in Mexico
Don’t expect help from the “open borders” Jorge Bush administration or any democrat on this. If you expect property rights in a place where the people are leaving as fast as they can, forget it.
This is the country that permits the kidnapping of US citizens, by its police and regularly provides military armed escorts into our homeland.
By the way, has anybody told Laura she is the first lady of Mexico?

Mexico - Enough said. I went to many sales presentations for different SFR and Condo projects, as well as rented several homes for vacation in Los Conchas. All you need to do is look at the town as you cross the border, and drive that short 50 mile drive from the border to Rocky Point to see the type of government you would be dealing with if there were a legal dispute. I also noticed many half built buildings along the waterfront in town as I made my way through the fish markets. Mexico is a third world country, and they always will be. Corruption is king there, and a few large powerful families run the entire nation. If you are not one of them, or related to one of them, the best thing you can do to get the ocean view is to rent someone else’s bungalow for the weekend. A lot cheaper and “investing” in anything Mexican is about the same as “investing” in Enron, only Jeffrey Skilling won’t even speak english when he evaporates your life savings. Just my humble opinion….
