John, Do you have any idea what the potential impact is for Engle home owners still under the builder’s warranty? Is there any precedence?

I assume they are still covered. It’s not like Engle Homes closed down.

I would just worry that they may not be very responsive to warranty problems if they are so strapped for cash that had to file for bankruptcy.

Anyone out there know for sure what the story is in a Chapter 11?

By the way, I can’t find a story on Engle Homes in the azcentral.com this morning. Did they bury the story by putting it in the blog? Or perhaps they busy preparing a long piece.

Hello…we are currently in the market for a home in the sunshine. We are 55+ and sold our home in Portland Oregon in September. We have looked in Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. I think we have decided on Arizona. After checking out the Robson properties, the Del Web homes etc. we looked at Engle in Maricopa….we liked it the best. Love the floor plans, the quality and the price however chapter 11 really scares us….any thoughts? Thank you.

Engle does make a good home. Their plumbing company sucks though. We had some issues that engle fixed under warranty. By the way they give you 10 year warranty. Not sure how that works in chap 11. But most builders give you 1 year. Engle did have great benefits like that. But the plumber used interns to do the work. Very poor job. Also they seem to have changed many of their sub contractors since we had our house done so perhaps they got better. Less work for subs may mean better quality.

They appear to have hired a 3rd party to deal with the 10 year warranty now.

    Thanks roger.

I don’t know how this and future bankruptcy filings will affect recent Engle home buyers.

It’s good to hear a first hand account.

Hello…we did buy a beautiful house in Province last week at a price we couldn’t refuse. I am so glad Roger R made the commet about the plumbing as there is a spot on our lot that is muddy…we do the walk through next week..we’ll see if it is still wet. Since we are from Portland Oregon and more currently Wisconsin we are looking forward to dry, desert weather. Thanks again for the information. Myrna Freeman

Congratulations Myrna! What can you tell us about this home and why you couldn’t refuse it?

To whom it may concern: Our son bought an Engle home two years ago and it has been a nightmare for him. The home was very poorly built and has numerous problems that Engle has refused to address. He has put together a book with all the problems he has encountered with the Engle home. He has a great deal of experience with the building industry and many people are ready to buy his book.
