The great Phoenix-Scottsdale Super Bowl myth: Locals will rent their houses & condos out for big bucks

February 1st, 2008 · 5 Comments

I’m on board with this guy. Despite all the hype, renting your home out for the Super Bowl is rarely done successfully.

In a week or two the story will be how the Super Bowl generated less business than promised with quotes from small business owners and failed Super Bowl landlords.

Heck, the story could be written today but it’s not today’s story line.

John, I suspected that many people who were trying to rent out their homes for the Superbowl might be disappointed. I’ve not heard of any hotel shortages, have you. For kicks, I did go into the MLS and did a quick search in Scottsdale looking for rentals with “Superbowl” and “Super Bowl” in the comments. Of the 152 listings, only 9 had been rented, less than 6%. With this being the heart of our winter rental season, it would be interesting to know how many of those 9 properties were actually rented out for the Superbowl.

Well done, Dru! You quantified it.

6% fits neatly within my impression of the success of Super Bowl rentals.

On the other hand, every time one of our Maine newscasters does a live shot from poolside in Glendale I know someone here is thinking of listing their home with me and calling a Phoenix area broker. You’re much better off with Tom Brady’s Patriots in the game than Brian Brady’s Chargers!

Brian was way overrated as a QB. He could only run the option (ARM).

That is the funniest thing I’ve read all week.
