“In case you missed the announcement today in Real Estate, because of reductions in staff and space, the Sunday Real Estate section has printed its final edition.”
I’m guessing the fundamental reason was the Los Angeles Time Sunday Real Estate section wasn’t making enough money, otherwise, why would they drop it?
And why wasn’t it making enough money?
The internet.
We don’t even subscribe to a newspaper. Why kill the trees when much more information is online for free?
ADDED: A Realtor in Scripps Ranch, California explains it all.

John your reference to trees is appropriate in more ways than one. When you plant a new tree if you break the crown you kill the tree, however it will not show you that it is dead (brown leaves) for up to 18 months. The news paper industry crown is broken and once all us baby boomer are gone I think printed newspapers will go with us. Remember 8-track tapes…. Well I do.
We live in Colorado but are interested ultimately in moving to AZ. Your blog has been a great way of keeping in touch with the market. Thanks.

Newspaper real estate sections died when Realogy said its brands would basically stop advertising last year. It was only a matter of time.

It is amazing that sellers still insist that listing agents advertise in newspapers. More local papers should drop their real estate sections.

Here in Florida, its the same thing. Listing clients want to see their listings in the Sunday newspaper even though very few leads actually come from the paper. We place the ads just to keep the client happy, but in reality the Internet is much more productive and much less expensive too.
